MONTREAL, CANADA "...the idea that we have to be taught to dance is one of the minor insanities of this culture, I think. ...you might have to learn technique and you might have to learn to notice that you improvise and then at a certain point it's your responsibility both for the result but also for the process that gets you that result. " - Steve Paxton on Material for The Spine

STUDIO HYBRID (Brussels), Falling Matters September 6th - 10th, Morning Training Considering falling as the basic premise in locomotion, these classes will propose logical and complex patterns to generate, harness and recycle energy. EARTHDANCE (massachusetts); Uniquely Oblique June 2011 A one week intensive led by Kelly Keenan & Kira Kirsch More info soon...
PERFORMANCES; S P E C I E S a collaborative creation by Kelly Keenan & Kira Kirsch with live music by Philippe Lauzier s p e c i e s is a moving body exposition that makes a scientific, sensual and social attempt to perplex our experience and understanding of the living body. s p e c i e s maintains invisible typical identifying attributes and averts it to others- namely those of the spine. Subtle, supple and sublime, the spine is a binding common among all vertebrate species. With illogical precision two living bodies resistant to one identity saturated in space and elongated in time construct, deconstruct, and re-construct into unrecognisable forms, impressions and sensations. Unifying and distinguishing characteristics surface and relinquish to meditate on.
