The Undulating Body

Snake Bones
January 14 & 15
The Tannery World Dance Cultural Center, Santa Cruz
The dance begins with a wave.  A spine is in a constant flux and motion. An undulating spine connects the pelvis, ribcage and head as a receptor and transmitter of information and forces. We will work toward cultivating a deep sense of the subtle spine.  Movers obtain internal cues that indicate safe spinal articulations, respond to receiving impact, and channel forces to distribute recycled kinetic energy.   The dance will use a continuous flow of the wave in a spiral phrasing.

Sculpting First Steps

FootSandPrint

Febuary 11 & 12
The Tannery World Dance Cultural Center, Santa Cruz
Walking patterns serve as a starting point for learning other coordination’s such as stair climbing, running, a sport or dance. If the feet do not support the arch and ankle, the knees are not aligned, the hip arcs are not utilized, and the curves in the spine are not adjusted for optimal rebound, then the integrity of these structures will cause a gradual or even sudden deterioration.  Healthy walking includes understanding of structure and disposition of: foot / ankle supports & articulations, the pelvis rotary under-curve, diagonal arcs of the extremities as the foot receives weight, counter rotations of the masses and the continual undulating wave in the tri-axial skeleton.
